The holiday season is a time for gathering with loved ones, celebration, indulging in delicious food, and creating lasting memories. And what better way to set the mood for a festive feast than with a beautifully decorated tablescape? Recently, I had the pleasure of working with Kate Rumson to capture the essence of holiday elegance in a stunning dining room with Villeroy & Boch USA. This shoot combined the elegance of architectural design with the warmth and sparkle of festive décor, resulting in an unforgettable visual story.

Kate Rumson’s dining room is a masterpiece of modern design to create a festive and inviting atmosphere. The space is anchored with paneled detailing, a striking contemporary chandelier that feels both sculptural and functional, and rich wood flooring that adds warmth—a dream for any interior photographer. Rumson’s choice of a color palette of deep greens, golds, and reds, and the Villeroy & Boch’s elegant details, provides the perfect backdrop for this holiday-inspired tablescape. My goal was to highlight the way the design elements—Villeroy & Boch’s exquisite tableware, lush floral arrangements, and soft candlelight—harmonized with the room’s existing character.

The Holiday Tablescape

At the heart of this shoot was the beautifully curated holiday tablescape. The tablescape featured fresh greenery, vibrant yellow blooms, and tall, glowing candles that brought a festive energy to the space. Each place setting told its own story, inviting guests to gather, celebrate, and connect. The layering of textures—from the softness of the linen napkins to the gleaming porcelain plates—added depth and visual interest. This wasn’t just a dining table; it was an experience. What made this project so special was the collaboration of design and storytelling. Kate Rumson’s timeless style, paired with Villeroy & Boch’s exquisite products, allowed me to craft images that feel luxurious yet welcoming.

Design Meets Storytelling

Photographing this space was a creative journey that I thoroughly enjoyed. My goal was to capture the festive warmth of the tablescape without losing the architectural beauty of the room itself. I used natural light to emphasize the bright, airy feel of the space while balancing it with subtle shadows to add dimension. Close-up shots highlighted the intricate details of the Villeroy & Boch dinnerware, while wide angles captured the grandeur of the entire scene.

To achieve a true editorial feel, I played with perspective, shooting through the doorway to give a sense of invitation and layering the foreground with the beautiful wood flooring. These choices helped create a story—one where the viewer feels like a guest, stepping into the room for an elegant holiday gathering. As an interior and architectural photographer, my goal is always to translate design into an emotional experience. This shoot was a perfect example of how beautiful spaces can evoke a sense of connection and joy, especially during the holidays.

This project reminded me of the magic that happens when great design and purposeful styling come together. Whether you’re setting the table for a family dinner or creating content for a brand, the details matter. They tell a story, set a mood, and create memories. If you’re planning your own holiday tablescape, let this project serve as inspiration: focus on layering textures, mixing modern and classic elements, and using florals or candles to bring life to your space. And remember—it’s not just about the table; it’s about the room as a whole. If you’re inspired by this shoot or looking to elevate your own interior photography, I’d love to connect.
