Design NJ Feature: La Familia in Avon-by-the-Sea

When my client, Barbara Batesko, owner of Bee Hive Interiors, was building her showstopping home on the river in Avon-by-the-sea, she designed it for her family to make memories and enjoy time together in style, La Familia.

Marirose Krall, an editor of Design NJ, wrote a compelling article in the April | May 2023 issue of Design NJ, Family Style. After hurricane sandy, Barbara and her husband found a diamond in the rough and were inspired to design and custom build “down the shore” in quintessential Avon-by-the-Sea.

“I wanted this for my immediate family. I built this house for the grandchildren I don’t yet have,” she says, laughing. “That was really the driving force for me. I wanted a home where there’s plenty of room, and anybody can come and stay.”

Modern coastal in style, don’t call it nautical!

 “I wanted it to be warm and coastal. I don’t like the term ‘nautical,’” Batesko explains. “Coastal is light and bright and airy, comfortable and modern.”
